RE: Premise Identification

Recently the Fulton Fire Department had to respond to a fire alarm call.  The business did not have its structure properly marked with identifying numbers or letters.  This led to a delayed response time to the structure.  Fortunately, it was a false alarm and there was no threat to property or life, but precious time was spent looking for the structure.  This could have been avoided, if the structure was properly marked.

Per the International Property Maintenance Code, which Fulton enforces, all structures must have clear premise identification.  Section 304.3 “Premises Identification” states: “Buildings shall have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numerals or alphabet letters. Numbers shall be a minimum of three (3) inches in height with a minimum stroke width of one-half (1/2) inch.”

To better assist your residence/business with a quicker response time by emergency services, the Code Enforcement Office, is requesting that your residence/business install approved premise identification at your location. Identification should be installed on or over the main entrance door, or within close proximity of the entrance. A copy of the ordinance has been included for your convenience.

This office would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office.
